Man charged over assaults at Salisbury Downs

About 7.25am on Friday 31 July, police responded to reports of a stabbing on Thompson Avenue.

Police received multiple reports from members of the public of a man armed with a sharp weapon.

Northern District police immediately attended and confronted the suspect on Salisbury Highway. Officers drew a firearm and deployed a Taser during the incident, safely arresting the man.

A 63-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, both from Salisbury Downs, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were treated in hospital.

An 81-year-old man also sustained minor injuries after he was allegedly punched by the suspect.

The 29-year-old Salisbury Downs man was charged with attempted aggravated robbery, aggravated assault causing harm, aggravated assault and affray. He was refused police bail and is expected to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Monday 3 August.

The makeshift weapon allegedly used during the incident was seized by police.

Police are seeking information from anyone who saw the armed man or who may have dashcam footage from the area.
