Police respond to protest activity at Roxby Downs

07 Jul 2026 4:26pm

Police are monitoring protest activity near the BHP Olympic Dam site today following reports of demonstrators disrupting traffic and approaching vehicles entering the operation.

About 5.15am, police received reports of a protester near the main entrance who was allegedly approaching vehicles, obstructing access and behaving aggressively towards drivers. Additional local police resources were deployed to ensure public safety and minimise traffic disruption.

A group of approximately 25 protesters were in the vicinity late today, at times approaching a gate and obstructing traffic.

There have been reports of minor graffiti damage to infrastructure and no reports of injuries.

Police continue to work closely with BHP security to ensure the safety of workers, road users and members of the public. Police also thank the community and BHP employees for their patience and cooperation throughout the protest activity. While BHP operations were not impacted, some workers experienced delays and inconvenience.

Anyone engaging in protest activity is reminded that while lawful protest is a democratic right, actions that obstruct traffic, endanger public safety or interfere with lawful business operations may result in police action.
