An unlicensed motorcycle rider has been arrested after hiding from police in scrub at Whyalla overnight.
At about 1am on Wednesday 20 May, Whyalla police were patrolling Noble Street when they spotted an off-road motorbike being ridden on the road without headlights or a number plate.
Patrols followed the bike from a distance as the rider entered nearby scrubland.
The motorbike and a backpack were later located abandoned. A search of the bag allegedly uncovered prescription drugs, GHB and a glass pipe.
Officers conducted a foot search of the area and located the alleged rider hiding in scrub nearby. The man underwent drug and alcohol testing, returning a positive result for methamphetamine.
The 22-year-old Whyalla man was arrested and charged with riding without a licence, riding an unregistered and uninsured motorbike, drug driving and possessing a controlled drug. He was bailed to appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court on 6 July.
The motorbike was impounded for 28 days.
