The Band of South Australia Police performs at schools to deliver safety and crime prevention messages in a lively, positive way.

Apply now for student work experience with the Police Band

Applications are open from instrumental music students from Years 10 to 12 interested in joining the Band of the South Australia Police Band for work experience during 2-6 July 2018. Work experience will be held at Thebarton Police Barracks, located at the corner of Port Road and Goal Road, Thebarton, with days starting at 8.00 am.

During this dynamic course students will experience a typical week of a professional musician and will involve:

  • Observation of SAPOL Band ensembles
  • Three days of rehearsal, leading up to a public performance with the Band at Studio 520, ABC Building, Collinswood
  • Small group sectionals with mentorship by Band members on the same instrument
  • Information sessions run by Band management team on all aspects of Band operations.

Rock Patrol

Rock Patrol performs to secondary school students to:

  • deliver core police safety messages
  • improve police-youth relations.


The performance takes one hour including:

  • 45 minutes of music
  • interview questions
  • personal safety messages.

Personal safety messages focus on young drivers, dangers of bullying, cyber safety and mobile phone safety.

The band plays a combination of classic rock, pop and disco music.

Students are encouraged to ask questions or to stay behind for an informal chat after the performance.

School Beat Bands

The School Beat Bands performs to young children in childcare centres and primary school students to:

  • deliver messages about road safety
  • introduce the idea that police are your friends
  • dispel sayings about the police taking naughty children away.


The performance takes about 40 minutes. It includes:

  • songs from movie themes and children's television shows
  • road safety messages
  • bike, scooter and skateboard safety
  • police contact information.

We can perform in small to medium size halls, large classrooms and outside.

The performance is free.
