About the program

The work experience program is held at Thebarton Police Barracks, Band Room, located at the corner of Port Road and Gaol Road, Thebarton. We start at 8.00 am each day.

Students get to:

  • observe the Band ensembles
  • take part in three days of rehearsals
  • participate in small group sectionals with mentorship by Band members on the same instrument
  • attend information sessions on all aspects of Band operations.

The program culminates with a free one hour concert held at ABC Studio 520 at Collinswood on Thursday 4 July at 7.00 pm. The concert is performed to parents, friends, teachers and Friends of the Band.

At the end of the program students are provided with a recording of the concert, and have access to photographs and video of the concert and activities which they can use as part of their school portfolios and for assessment purposes. The program complies with Department of Education and Children's Services Workplace learning guidelines.
