Man arrested after stealing car at Taperoo

26 Aug 2026 6:52am

A man has been arrested after stealing a ute from a service station late last night.

Just before 10.45pm on Tuesday 25 August, a man stopped at a service station on Victoria Road and left his Ford ute running while he entered the store.

While this happened, the car was stolen and last seen driving north along Victoria Road.

The victim was able to provide police with live location updates through the car’s tracking system, allowing patrols and PolAir to monitor the ute's movements through Adelaide's western and northern suburbs.

The car eventually stopped in a cul-de-sac off Burcombe Street just after 11.15pm, where the driver abandoned the ute and attempted to flee on foot.

Patrols located and arrested an 18-year-old Salisbury Downs man nearby in Wexcombe Street.

He was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving unlicenced, driving at a dangerous speed and breach of bail.

The man was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court today.
