Murray Mallee Local Service Area weekend traffic update:
Just after 1pm Friday 2 May, patrols were called to Lexia Street, Berri after reports a man was slumped over the steering wheel of his car. Police spoke with the man who underwent a breath test, returning a positive result of 0.319. The driver, a 47-year-old man from Paringa was arrested and granted bail to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court on 7 July. He was issued with a 12-month instant loss of licence.
Just before 6pm Friday 2 May, Waikerie patrols were called to the Sturt Highway, Stockyard Plain after reports of a drink driver. Police located a white sedan and spoke with the driver who underwent a breath test. The driver, a 58-year-old man from Waikerie, returned a positive result of 0.308. He was reported for drink driving and will be summonsed to appear in the Berri Magistrates Court. The man’s licence was disqualified on the spot for 12 months and his vehicle was impounded for 28 days.
About 5.30pm Saturday 3 May, police stopped a Mitsubishi sedan on Bahnisch Avenue, Berri and spoke with the driver. Checks on the driver’s licence showed that it was disqualified. The driver, a 25-year-old man from Berri was reported for driving while disqualified and will be summonsed to appear in the Berri Magistrates court at a later date.
About 11.30am Saturday 3 May, Waikerie patrols stopped a Mazda sedan on Peake Terrace, Waikerie. Police checks on the driver’s license revealed that he has in fact never held a licence. The driver, a 69-year-old man from Felixstow was reported for driving unlicensed never held and will be summonsed to appear in the Berri Magistrates court at a later date. The driver’s car was impounded for 28 days.
Just before 5pm Saturday 3 May, traffic patrols stopped a pit bike on Patey Drive, Renmark and spoke with the rider. Checks on his licence showed that he was disqualified from riding. The rider underwent a drug test which allegedly returned a positive result. The rider, a 38-year-old man from Renmark was reported for driving while disqualified and will be summonsed to appear in the Berri Magistrates court at a later date. He had his motorbike impounded for 28 days and may face further charges pending forensic analysis of his oral fluid.
Just before 8am Sunday 4 May, highway patrols stopped a Ford ute on Renmark Avenue, Renmark after detecting the driver speeding at 102km/h in a 90km/h speed zone. The driver underwent a drug test which allegedly returned a positive result. The man, a 24-year-old from Renmark was issued an expiation notice for speeding and may face further charges pending forensic analysis of his oral fluid.
About 12pm Sunday 4 May, Murray Bridge patrols stopped a Holden sedan on Bridge Street, Murray Bridge and spoke with the driver who underwent a drug test. It is alleged that the driver a 62-year-old man from Murray Bridge returned a positive result and result may face charges pending forensic analysis of his oral fluid.
About 5.30pm Sunday 4 May, Waikerie patrols stopped a Holden sedan on Strangman Road, Waikerie. The driver underwent a drug test and allegedly returned a positive result. The man, a 23-year-old from Waikerie may face charges pending forensic analysis of his oral fluid.
