A motorbike rider has been arrested after being caught travelling at extreme speeds in the metropolitan area.

It will be alleged that about 9.50pm on Thursday 18 September, police saw a man do a burnout in Morphett Street near South Terrace in Adelaide on a black Honda motorcycle.

The bike sped off and PolAir was called to the area to follow the bike as it travelled south on Goodwood Road at Colonel Light Gardens, reaching speeds of 160km/h in a 60km/h zone.

The rider continued south, going through multiple red traffic lights before entering the Southern Expressway.

He was tracked to a house in Hackham where he was arrested.

The 22-year-old Kilburn man was charged with numerous offences including driving at an extreme speed, misuse of a motor vehicle and breach of bail.

His motorbike was impounded for 28 days and he was refused bail to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court today (Friday 19 September).
