Truck crash and fire at Cavan

Emergency services were called to Port Wakefield Road, Cavan about 3.15am on Thursday 4 June by reports of a truck on fire.

The truck had collided with a light pole and bus stop and then appears to have been set alight.

The driver left the scene before emergency services arrived.  Witnesses reported seeing a tall man wearing a hat walking away from the scene.

MFS crews extinguished the blaze, which is believed to have been started in the bed of the flatbed truck.

The hire truck was towed from the scene for examination.

Investigations into the crash and fire are continuing.
