11 Oct 2026 2:02pm

Three people were charged after allegedly stealing copper from a telecommunications site at Waterloo Corner this morning.

Police were alerted to suspicious behaviour near the telecommunications site on Port Wakefield Road, Waterloo Corner just before 11am on Sunday 11 October.

Patrols responded and apprehended a woman at the scene immediately while two men were seen running away.  One was caught after a short foot pursuit, and patrols searched the area with the assistance of Police Dog Gus and his handler for the other man.

PD Gus quickly found the suspect hiding in a tree and he was arrested.

A 37-year-old South Plympton man and a 29-year-old Elizabeth North man were charged with theft.  They were bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 19 November.

A 40-year-old Elizabeth North woman was reported for theft and will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.  She also later tested positive to methamphetamine while driving and her car was defected for safety breaches. The sample will be sent for forensic testing.

Investigations are continuing.

Technicians will attend and assess the scene for damage to any infrastructure.
