Two men charged with drug trafficking after highway stop at Bordertown

Just after 11am on Thursday 24 September, Limestone Coast police searched a hire car that had been stopped on the Dukes Highway at Bordertown. During the search, police located approximately 12.5kg of cannabis and 250g of methamphetamine.

The two occupants, a 39-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, both from Victoria, were arrested and charged with trafficking in a large commercial quantity of a controlled substance. They were refused police bail and appeared in the Mount Gambier Magistrates Court, where they were remanded in custody until 21 June 2027.

The arrests coincided with a major road safety operation conducted on the Dukes Highway at Keith on Friday 25 September.

Police from across the Limestone Coast, along with Traffic Services Branch, Dog Operations Unit and the National Heavy Vehicle Regulator, stopped 626 vehicles during the operation.

The operation resulted in four drug seizures, including cannabis and cocaine, with approximately 80g of cannabis and 6g of cocaine seized. Police also issued 13 traffic expiation notices, 14 vehicle defect notices and three cannabis expiation notices. One driver returned a positive roadside drug test and two men were reported for separate offences.
