Police will commence Operation Jericho across the western suburb's coastline tomorrow in a proactive effort to prevent street crime and public disorder in the region's popular foreshore areas between Largs Bay and Glenelg.
Originally scheduled to commence at the end of October, the operation has been brought forward following recent incidents and will now begin on Friday 2 October 2026. The initiative will focus on addressing anti-social behaviour, criminal activity and road safety issues throughout the warmer months.
Police will target behavioural and alcohol-related offences while working closely with local councils, businesses and community stakeholders to identify and respond to problem areas.
Acting Assistant Commissioner David O'Donovan said, "SAPOL has a strong partnership with local communities and businesses and remains committed to ensuring the coastline remains a safe and welcoming destination for residents and visitors.
“There will be a highly visible police presence across the area, including mounted police, bike patrols, drug detection dogs and other specialist resources.”
Operation Jericho will run from 2 October 2026 through to April 2027, with police maintaining a strong presence along the western suburb's foreshore during the peak summer period.
Anyone who witnesses any anti-social behaviour is asked to contact the police assistance line on 131 444 at the time.
