A man had to be rescued from the Torrens after jumping into the water to evade police overnight.
Police responded to a group of men fighting in Hindley Street, Adelaide about 5am on Saturday 10 October.
While police were speaking to those involved, one man ran off and was briefly pursued by police before they lost sight of him.
Police monitoring cameras in the area notified officers that the man had jumped into the River Torrens.
Patrols rushed to the river and spotted the man struggling in the water and calling for help.
Three police officers jumped in to save the drowning man. They located him and held him above the water before the group were then assisted from the water by other officers.
The 22-year-old Blair Athol man was taken to hospital by ambulance for treatment. His condition is not believed to be life-threatening. The police officers were assessed by paramedics at the scene.
Investigations into the fight are ongoing.
