Drink driver stopped on Moana beach

29 Oct 2026 9:47pm

A man has lost his licence and car after being stopped by police drink driving at Moana.

About 7.30pm on Thursday 29 October, police stopped a Toyota utility on Moana beach for the purpose of a driver test.

It will be alleged the driver, a 23-year-old local man, returned a positive result of 0.116 – more than two times the legal.

The man was reported for drink driving, issued a six-month instant loss of licence and his car was impounded for 28 days.

He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Southern District Police remain committed to reducing road trauma and remind all motorists that drink driving remains one of the major contributing factors to serious and fatal crashes. Even small amounts of alcohol can impair judgement, reaction times and driving ability, placing the driver, passengers and other road users at significant risk. Police will continue to conduct random breath testing and enforce road safety laws to help keep our roads safe for everyone.
