Drink driver in Whyalla drive-thru

03 Sep 2026 6:39am

A high-range drink driver was found in a fast-food restaurant drive-thru at Whyalla overnight.

Whyalla Police were patrolling the area when they saw a vehicle in the restaurant drive-thru on Nicolson Avenue, Whyalla Norrie about 12.30am on Thursday 3 September.

It will be alleged the driver, a 38-year-old Whyalla man, appeared to be grossly intoxicated and was struggling to speak.

He subsequently recorded a blood alcohol reading of 0.306 - more than six times the legal limit.

He was reported for drink driving and issued with a 12-month immediate loss of licence.

His vehicle was impounded for 28 days and he will be summonsed to appear in court.
