Water safety operation at Ceduna

6 Oct 2026 9:28am

Over the long weekend, SAPOL Water Operations Unit conducted a long-range patrol onboard Police Launch 1 'INVESTIGATOR II', operating along the far west coastline of the Eyre Western Region.

During the operation, Water Operations Unit members conducted drug and alcohol testing, along with vessel safety equipment inspections in the waters surrounding Ceduna.

Police engaged with 85 people on the water and issued 15 expiations for offences including failing to carry required safety equipment, carrying expired safety equipment, and operating unregistered vessels.

Of particular significance, one vessel operator returned a positive drug test for methamphetamine while operating a vessel.

In a separate incident, two recreational fishers aboard a vessel less than 4.8 metres in length were found not wearing lifejackets and did not have any lifejackets on board.

Water Operations Unit will continue to maintain a highly visible policing presence through long-range patrols across South Australia's coastal waters as we move into the summer boating season.
