Seven arrested over Whyalla break-ins

Seven people have been arrested following a recent spate of break-ins in the Whyalla area.

An attempt was made to gain entry to a Whyalla Stuart home about 12.15am on Sunday 14 June. No entry was gained and nothing was reported stolen.

A short time later at 12.30am, the occupant of a Whyalla Stuart home awoke to find a male suspect inside the house. He fled after being confronted. Nothing was reported stolen.

Between 11pm on Saturday 13 June and 5.30am on Sunday 14 June, a home at Whyalla Norrie was broken into and two Ford sedans were stolen.

About 11.45am on Sunday, entry was made through an unlocked rear door to a home at Whyalla Stuart. A wallet and car keys were stolen along with a Kia SUV.

The stolen cars have since been recovered.

As a result of investigations into the incidents, the following arrests were made -

Five Whyalla boys aged 11, 12, 13, 14 and 17 were charged with unlawful possession and bailed to appear in the Whyalla Youth Court on 4 August

A 15-year-old boy from Port Augusta West was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, hinder/resist arrest and being unlawfully on premises. He was bailed to appear in the Port Augusta Youth Court on 15 July.

A 19-year-old man from Whyalla Stuart charged with unlawful possession and bailed to appear in the Whyalla Magistrates Court on 10 August.
