Multiple arrests made during regional crime operation

18 Jun 2026 4:50pm

Police across the Upper Spencer Gulf have made multiple arrests as part of an operation in response to an increase in reported break-ins and vehicle thefts.

Operation Scalene was launched earlier this month in response to emerging crime trends and cross-border offending across the Eyre and Western, Far North, and Yorke Mid North policing regions. The aim of the operation is to identify and disrupt those responsible for the crimes.

To date, Operation Scalene has resulted in 11 arrests, with 32 charges laid across 13 separate incidents.

On Sunday 14 June, police attended an address at Whyalla Stuart and located stolen property from an alleged break-in. Seven males, aged between 11 and 19, were arrested for unlawful possession and bailed to appear in court on future dates.

On Monday 15 June, Whyalla patrols arrested a 13-year-old boy after he was allegedly found in possession of two gaming consoles, stolen during a recent break-in. A 14-year-old boy was also arrested in connection with the stolen property on Wednesday 17 June. Both boys were granted bail to appear in the Whyalla Youth Court in the coming months.

On Wednesday 17 June, Whyalla detectives arrested another 14-year-old boy over a series of alleged break-ins across the Upper Spencer Gulf. He was charged with 20 offences linked to ten separate incidents, including aggravated serious criminal trespass and illegal use of a motor vehicle. He was refused police bail and remanded in custody.

Police are continuing to target those involved in this offending and urge the local community to report any suspicious behaviour around homes and cars via the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
