Regional road safety operation in Port Lincoln

Traffic Services Branch officers from Adelaide recently supported Eyre and Western Highway patrols with a road safety operation in Port Lincoln on Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 May.

During the operation, officers targeted the Fatal Five offences, conducting 216 breath tests and 73 roadside drug tests.

One driver returned a positive breath test, while seven drivers returned positive roadside drug tests. One driver also refused to comply with a roadside drug test.

Notable detections include:

  • A 19-year-old Port Lincoln man was issued a $441 fine for drink driving while on a provisional licence after returning a blood alcohol reading of 0.037.
  • A 23-year-old Streaky Bay man was stopped on Edinburgh Street, Port Lincoln, and allegedly returned a positive roadside drug test for THC. He was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and will be issued an $875 fine for drug driving.
  • A 19-year-old Port Lincoln woman was stopped on Mortlock Terrace after allegedly exceeding the speed limit and returned a positive roadside drug test for THC. She was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and will also be fined for speeding and drug driving.
  • An 18-year-old Edillilie man was stopped on Napoleon Street and allegedly returned positive drug tests for THC and cocaine. He was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and will be issued an $875 fine for drug driving.
  • A 44-year-old Port Lincoln man was stopped on Porter Street and allegedly returned a positive drug test for THC. He was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and will be issued an $875 fine for drug driving.
  • A 63-year-old Port Lincoln man was stopped on Third Avenue and allegedly returned a positive drug test for THC. He was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and will be issued an $875 fine for drug driving.
  • A 44-year-old Port Lincoln man was stopped on New West Road for not wearing a seatbelt and allegedly returned a positive drug test for methamphetamine. He was issued a three-month immediate loss of licence and will be fined for failing to wear a seatbelt, drug driving and breaching probationary licence conditions.
  • A 37-year-old Port Lincoln man was stopped on Hallett Place and allegedly returned a positive drug test for methamphetamine. He refused to comply with further police directions for an oral fluid analysis and was issued a 12-month immediate loss of licence. His vehicle was impounded for 28 days and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
  • A 26-year-old Port Lincoln man was stopped on Swaffer Street and allegedly returned a positive drug test for methamphetamine. He was riding a modified e-bike classified as a motorbike and was reported for drug driving, driving while disqualified, and driving an unregistered and uninsured vehicle. He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date. The motorbike was impounded for 28 days.
  • A 15-year-old Port Lincoln boy was stopped on Eyre Street riding a modified electric motorbike. He was reported for riding unlicensed and operating an unregistered and uninsured vehicle and will be summonsed to appear in the Youth Court at a later date. The motorbike was impounded for 28 days.

Police remind all drivers that speeding, drink and drug driving, distraction, fatigue and not wearing a seatbelt are the leading causes of lives lost on our roads. Drivers are urged to take responsibility and make safe choices.
