Counterfeit currency arrest made at Mount Gambier

About 12:20 pm on 14 September, police attended a residence on Sturt Street, Mount Gambier, for a search as part of an investigation into the circulation of counterfeit $50 notes within the Mount Gambier area. Upon entering the premises, police located and arrested the occupant, a 32-year-old man in relation to a number of counterfeit currency offences.

The arrest follows investigations into several incidents where counterfeit $50 notes were allegedly passed at local businesses, including licensed premises, a service station, and retail outlets within Mount Gambier.

As a result of the investigation, the man was charged with possessing counterfeit currency and uttering counterfeit currency (multiple counts).

Police remind businesses and members of the public to remain vigilant when handling cash transactions, particularly $50 notes, and to report any suspected counterfeit currency to police. Further information about counterfeit currency can be found on the AFP website linked below.
