Teenagers rescued in Onkaparinga River NP

Three teenagers were rescued by police this evening after becoming lost in Onkaparinga River National Park.

Police were alerted to the missing 15, 17 and 19-year-old just after 7pm on Sunday 5 July, following reports they had become lost on the Sundew Track within the national park.

PolAir responded and located the trio deep within the park about 7.20pm.

Southern District patrols then hiked into the area on foot, traversing steep terrain and knee-deep water before locating the teenagers and escorting them to safety.

Fortunately, none of the teenagers were injured.

Police remind bushwalkers that winter days are shorter and darkness can fall quickly. Anyone planning a hike should ensure they allow enough time to complete their walk before nightfall, carry appropriate safety equipment, take sufficient food and water, stick to marked trails and let someone know their planned route and expected return time.
