28 Oct 2026 1:04pm

South Australia Police (SAPOL) has conducted a targeted road safety operation across the Riverland, detecting a significant number of traffic offences and intoxicated drivers.

Members of the Northern Tactical Road Policing Team travelled to the Riverland region from Monday 26 October to Tuesday 27 October.

Police conducted road safety activities in Barmera, Renmark, Waikerie, Kingston on Murray and Berri, with a focus on driver behaviour and compliance.

During the operation police conducted over 200 breath tests and nearly 100 roadside drug tests.

A total of 21 drivers returned positive drug tests and were issued with instant losses of licence.

Police also issued 72 expiation notices for a range of traffic offences, reported eight motorists to be summonsed to court, issued 23 defect notices and impounded two vehicles for 28 days.

SAPOL urges road users to obey speed limits, not drive while affected by alcohol or drugs, and ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before travelling.

Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving or unsafe road behaviour is encouraged to contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444 or Triple Zero (000) in an emergency.
