A woman has been fined after she was seen driving with various items of furniture protruding from her car at West Beach yesterday.
About 8.15am on Thursday 5 November, police observed a Hyundai sedan travelling on Military Road, West Beach, with an insecure and projecting load.
Police identified a number of serious safety concerns, including furniture protruding from the vehicle through an open rear passenger door, unsecured items being carried on the roof, and a load projecting from the side of the vehicle that significantly exceeded the permitted limit.
During the stop, police also observed the driver holding a mobile phone while driving.
The vehicle was immediately prevented from continuing its journey due to the safety risks posed to the driver and other road users.
The driver, a 73-year-old Kingston Park woman, was issued with expiation notices for a number of traffic offences.
Police remind motorists that insecure loads can have serious and potentially fatal consequences. Items that fall from vehicles or project beyond legal limits can create significant hazards for other road users, particularly at higher speeds.
Drivers are responsible for ensuring all loads are properly restrained and comply with legal requirements before commencing their journey. Taking a few extra minutes to secure a load correctly can prevent crashes, injuries and the loss of life.
