South Australia Police (SAPOL) detected hundreds of road safety offences during Operation High Impact F5, conducted statewide from 19 to 25 October 2026.

The week-long operation targeted the Fatal Five behaviours known to contribute to death and serious injury on our roads: drink and drug driving, speeding, distraction, dangerous driving, and failing to wear seatbelts.

Police conducted 7,931 alcotests and recorded 45 alcohol detections, including seven people who failed to comply with testing.

A further 651 drug tests were conducted, with 101 drivers returning positive results.

During the operation police detected:

  • 537 speeding offences
  • 30 seatbelt offences
  • 73 mobile phone offences
  • 463 other distraction-related offences
  • 22 dangerous road use offences.

A total of 98 vehicles were impounded, and 143 immediate loss of licence notices were issued for offences involving drink and drug driving, speeding, and misuse of a motor vehicle.

No lives were lost on South Australian roads during the operation period, but 17 people were seriously injured.

Officer in Charge of Traffic Services Branch, Superintendent Shane Johnson, said the results highlighted the ongoing need for enforcement and safer choices behind the wheel.

“Thankfully, no lives were lost during this operation however, 17 people suffered serious injuries. The consequences of road trauma can stay with those injured and their families for the rest of their lives,” Superintendent Johnson said.

“Police will continue to target dangerous behaviour across the state. We urge every road user to take responsibility for their actions and make safe choices on every journey.”
