Teen arrested after reckless e-motorbike riding at Seaford

A teenage boy has been arrested after allegedly riding an electric motorbike recklessly in the southern suburbs.

Just after 5pm on Sunday 6 September, police spotted an e-motorbike being ridden on Commercial Road, Seaford. The rider allegedly accelerated away from officers and continued riding in a manner designed to attract police attention. The bike was not pursued and PolAir was called in to assist.

PolAir tracked the rider to a shopping centre at the corner of Aldinga Beach Road and Pridham Boulevard, where he allegedly attempted to hide from the helicopter under the eaves of the building.

Patrols moved in and arrested the 16-year-old boy while he was still seated on the motorbike.

The boy from Aldinga Beach was charged with riding without a licence and riding an unregistered and uninsured motorbike. He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Youth Court on 24 September.

The e-motorbike was impounded for 28 days.

While police were dealing with the arrested boy, a relative allegedly approached officers and interfered with the arrest.

The 37-year-old man was charged with hindering police and resisting arrest. He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 28 September.

Police remain committed to holding riders of illegal e-motorbikes accountable and taking action against behaviour that places riders, pedestrians and other road users at risk.
