29 Oct 2026 11:55am

A man has been arrested after assaulting police during a traffic stop in the early hours of this morning.

Just before 12.30am on Thursday 29 October, patrols saw a blue Volkswagen Tiguan travelling north on Grand Boulevard in Seaford before turning onto Seaford Road where police stopped the vehicle.

When officers attempted to conduct a breath test on the driver, he became agitated, exited the vehicle and allegedly punched one officer to the face, grabbed his vest and arms and attempted to headbutt him. The man also grabbed a second officer and attempted to punch him.

Extra patrols attended the scene to assist in the arrest.

A subsequent breath test returned a positive reading of 0.161.

A 32-year-old Reynella man was charged with two counts of assault prescribed emergency worker, resist arrest and drink-driving.

He was issued with an immediate loss of licence notice for 12 months and his vehicle was impounded for 28 days.

He was bailed to appear in the Christies Beach Magistrates Court on 30 November.
