Two arrested after copper theft at Virginia

About 5am today (Monday 9 November), police were called to Penfield Road after reports that two men were trying to remove copper cabling and wires from an underground pit.

The suspects had tied a strap around the cables and attempted to pull them from the ground using a Mercedes-Benz van.

Patrols were on scene within minutes and surrounded the van preventing the suspects from leaving.

The two suspects, a 35-year-old Virginia man and a 34-year-old man from the Yorke Peninsula were charged with numerous offences including theft and property damage.

They were both refused bail and will appear in court today.

The van was impounded by police.
