Dukes Highway reopened after crash at Elwomple

The Dukes Highway was reopened early this morning following a fatal crash at Elwomple, south of Tailem Bend yesterday.

About 9.50am on Wednesday 10 June, a Hyundai sedan collided head on with a road train carrying hay on the Dukes Highway. The truck and car caught fire on impact.

The car driver, a man from Paradise, sadly died at the scene.

The truck driver was not injured.

CFS crews spent several hours responding to the fire which was expected to burn into the night.

The Dukes Highway was closed between the Mallee Highway and Tynan Road throughout the night but reopened about 2am this morning.

Major crash investigators attended the scene to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
