Police have charged a man involved in a fatal crash in Port Augusta West overnight.
Just before 2.30am today (Saturday 15 February) police and ambulance crews were called to Caroona Road, after reports that a vehicle, believed to be a silver/grey 2013 Toyota Kluger SUV, had collided with two people, and then allegedly drove away in a southerly direction.
The two people, a 50-year-old man and a 44-year-old woman, both of Port Augusta West sadly died at the scene.
Around midday today, the driver of the Toyota Kluger, a 39-year-old from Port Augusta, attended Port Augusta Police Station where he was arrested and charged with two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of a crash and one count of aggravated driving without due care. He was refused bail and will appear in the Port Augusta Magistrates Court on Monday 17 February.
The Toyota was located just after 12.30pm today and was forensically examined before being seized and towed to the Port Augusta impound yard.
