BMW thief arrested at Smithfield Plains

About 7.30am on Sunday 1 November, Elizabeth patrols spotted the stolen BMW sedan on Carstairs Lane, Smithfield Plains. Officers searched the surrounding area and located the alleged suspect nearby, where he was arrested without incident.

Police will allege the BMW was stolen during an incident at Findon on 28 October, when the owner, a man in his 40s, was assaulted and had his keys taken before the vehicle was stolen. The victim suffered minor abrasions during the incident.

The 36-year-old arrested man of no fixed address was charged with assault, theft of a motor vehicle, illegal use of a motor vehicle, driving unlicenced and making off without payment (failing to pay for fuel).

He was granted police bail and will appear in the Port Adelaide Magistrates Court on 15 December.

The BMW was examined by Crime Scene Investigators and will be returned to its owner.
