A man has been arrested after trying to speed away from police in the states far north.
Just after 10.30am on Sunday 9 November, police detected a Jeep station wagon without registration plates travelling at 173 km/h in 110 km/h zone on the Stuart Highway at Ingomar.
Police attempted to pull the car over however it failed to stop.
The car was sighted again just after 11am travelling at excessive speed approaching Coober Pedy, where again the vehicle failed to stop and continued North towards Marla.
Police conducted a search of the bushland surrounding Cadney Homestead Roadhouse, North of Coober Pedy, and located the car and occupants approximately 10 kilometres into scrubland hidden from sight off a dirt track.
Police arrested the driver, a 22-year-old man from Para Hills who was charged with excessive speed, drive dangerously to escape police pursuit and drive without registration plates.
The driver was issued with a six-month immediate loss of licence notice and the car was impounded for 28 days.
He was refused police bail and will appear before the Coober Pedy Court on Monday.
