Teens arrested in Port Augusta

Three teenagers have been arrested after being caught in a stolen car in Port Augusta yesterday.

About 7.45am on Saturday 31 May, police were alerted to a Mitsubishi Triton speeding along Augusta Highway at Winninowie, heading towards Port Augusta.

A Check on the registration of the car revealed the Mitsubishi Trion had been stolen from Dry Creek overnight.

Patrols briefly sighted the vehicle travelling through road works on the Augusta Highway inside the township and cordons were put in place.

Three males were located walking on Gulf Street at Port Augusta and one male was identified as being a passenger in the stolen vehicle.

A short time later the vehicle was located dumped on Margaret Street near to where the males were stopped.  A search of the teenagers located the key to the Mitsubishi Triton and stolen property taken from a car parked at a Devon Park address.

A 16-year-old boy from Blakeview, was charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, theft, two counts of breach of bail and stating false details.  He was granted police bail to appear in Elizabeth Youth Court on 11 July.

A 16-year-old boy from Craigmore, was charged with Illegal use of a motor vehicle.  He was refused police bail and will appear in Port Augusta Youth Court on Monday 2 June.

A 19-year-old man from Whyalla Stuart, was charged with Illegal use of a motor vehicle, failing to truly answer questions, driving unlicenced and driving at a speed dangerous.  He was granted police bail to appear in Port Augusta Court on 7 July.
