Youths arrested in Whyalla

Four youths have been arrested after allegedly stealing a car from a Whyalla Norrie home last night.

During the morning on Saturday 31 May, a home had been broken into in Whyalla Norrie, during which time car keys were stolen.  Between 7pm and 9.45pm suspects returned to the address and stole the victims Nissan X-Trail from the carport.

About 10.30pm that evening, police spotted the stolen SUV on Caroona Road, near Eyre Highway, Lincoln Gap.  The occupants left the car running and had fled the scene.

Patrols quickly set up cordons around the nearby scrubland and searched the area.

Four youths were located hiding in bushes; they attempted to run from Police but were arrested after a brief foot pursuit.

A 12-year-old from Port Pirie South, two 13-year-olds from Port Augusta and Whyalla Stuart and a 14-year-old from Port Augusta were all charged with illegal use of a motor vehicle, breach of bail and hindering police.  Three boys were granted police bail to appear in Port Augusta Youth Court on 13 August.  The fourth boy did not apply for bail and will appear in court on Monday 2 June.
