Two arrested after weapons found in Whyalla

Two people have been arrested after weapons were found in Whyalla.

It will be alleged that about 4.15am on Thursday 26 June, police observed a silver Holden Calais travelling south on Jenkins Avenue.

Police stopped the vehicle on Curnow Street.

During a search of the vehicle, police located a black bumbag containing a homemade firearm under the driver’s seat.

Officers also found a glass pipe, a small amount of white crystal substance and a machete.

The driver, a 37-year-old Whyalla Stuart man was charged with numerous offences including drug offences and possess firearm and refused bail.

Police then searched a house in Geddes Street, Whyalla Stuart and found equipment used to manufacture homemade firearms.

This search resulted in the discovery of further firearm parts that had been modified and appeared capable of firing ammunition, additional ammunition, and other prohibited weapons.

Police seized all located items.

A woman from the property, a 37-year-old woman was charged with manufacture firearm and possess ammunition without licence.

She was also refused bail.
