Police are urging motorists to drive to the conditions following multiple crashes on the North South Motorway this morning.
About 7am on Monday 29 June, emergency services were called to Globe Derby Park after reports of a multi-vehicle collision. The incident involved five vehicles, with no reported injuries. Four expiation notices will be issued. (169489)
A short distance away at Dry Creek, a larger crash involving 13 vehicles occurred in the southbound lanes. Ten vehicles required towing and one person sustained minor injuries. Investigations are continuing. (169697)
In total, 18 vehicles were involved across both incidents, with 13 vehicles towed from the scene and two people taken to hospital with minor injuries.
Early indications suggest drivers failing to adjust to road and traffic conditions on the roadway contributed to the collisions.
Police are reminding motorists that even on major roads, drivers must remain alert, maintain safe distances and adjust their speed to suit traffic flow, weather and road conditions.
Drivers are urged to pay attention, be considerate and take extra care to help prevent avoidable crashes.
