Police investigating affray in APY lands

About 10.50am on Sunday 12 July, police responded to reports of a large group of people fighting at Pukatja (Ernabella) on the APY Lands.

A 59-year-old man from Pukatja, believed to have been involved in the altercation, attended the local clinic for treatment. While receiving medical care, he subsequently died.

Following an investigation into the man's death, including a post-mortem examination, police have determined that his death is not suspicious and was not related to the disturbance. A report will be prepared for the Coroner.

APY Lands police continued their investigation to identify those involved in the disturbance and as a result, arrested and charged the following people –

• A 16-year-old boy from Seacombe Gardens – Refused bail
• A 21-year-old Far North woman – Bailed to appear in the Ernabella Court 24 August
• A 39-year-old man Far North man – Refused bail
• A 20-year-old Far North man - Refused bail
• A 26-year-old Far North man – Refused bail
• A 22-year-old man from Windsor Gardens – Refused bail
• A 20-year-old Far North man – Refused bail
• A 31-year-old Far North man – Bailed to appear in the Ernabella Court 24 August
• A 24-year-old Far North man – Bailed to appear in the Ernabella Court 24 August

All were charged with aggravate affray.
