21 May 2026 3:25pm

Police and emergency services attended a crash on the Stuart Highway, McDouall Peak.

About 3.30pm on Saturday 16 May, police and emergency services respond to reports of a two-car crash involving a Subaru station wagon and a Toyota sedan.

The drivers and two passengers were treated at the scene by emergency service officers in private Ambulances from nearby mine sites and were conveyed to hospital with non-life threatening injures.

The driver of the Subaru a 74-year-old man from the Northern Territory was reported for driving without due care and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

Sergeant Finlayson of Coober Pedy Police states “all motorists are asked to take care when driving on remote highways in regional areas, taking regular breaks to avoid fatigue and stay focussed on the hazards around them.

At incidents like this in very remote areas, it is pleasing to see so many people and agencies working closely together. Police would like to acknowledge the valuable support provided by members of the public who stopped to assist, as well as the local mining companies that provided communication support & highly trained medical staff and equipment to work alongside and support the local emergency service members”.
