The South Australian Firearms Register (SAFR) Project will transform the way SAPOL delivers firearms services to the community. SAFR will enhance efficiency, security and accessibility while improving the experience for firearm owners, businesses and law enforcement.
The SAFR project will deliver:
Currently firearm services rely heavily on paper-based processes and in-person interactions at police stations, ServiceSA and Australia Post. By embracing online technology and automating processes SAFR will enhance the customer experience and speed up application processing times.
Currently there are over 30 firearm related services offered by SAPOL. The 15 highest volume services will be made available online as these represent the biggest opportunity to increase convenience for licence holders.
SAFR will deliver:
The online survey is now closed, and we are currently reviewing all the feedback received. Thank you to all licensees who participated and shared their valuable insights - your feedback will help shape our services, systems, and communications. All responses are anonymous and will remain strictly confidential.
While the project is still in its early stages, there are a few things you can do now to be ready. To access the new SAFR customer portal, you will need aMySAGov account. If you don’t already have an account a step-by-step user guide for creating one is available here.
If you are an existing licence holder, you can also link a digital version of your firearms licence to your MySAGov account.
SAPOL strongly encourages you to set up two-factor authentication (2FA) to protect your account from unauthorised access. Guidance can be found here: SA.GOV.AU - Steps to keep your mySAGOV account secure
As we move closer to the launch of the new customer portal, keep an eye out for updates and important information on this website.
As part of the National Firearms Register (NFR) initiative, SAPOL is collaborating with other states and territories to deliver a unified, secure and efficient firearms register across the nation.
The NFR will be designed as an integrated system that connects and draws information from existing Commonwealth, state and territory firearms registries, portals and management systems into one central register.
This will provide a life cycle view of registered firearms in Australia, delivering timely and accurate information on firearms, firearm owners and licences across all jurisdictions. The NFR will enhance police and community safety and improve law enforcement capability.
The NFR’s website provides information including factsheets, key information and updates.
