The Investigation Support Branch consists of a number of sections which support the investigation process. Each section provides a specialist investigation support to Local Service Areas and Crime Services. These Sections include: Confiscation sectionThe aim of the Confiscation Section is to deter criminal activity, attack the economic base of criminal enterprise and to increase public confidence in the criminal justice system by demonstrating to the community that crime does not pay. Surveillance SectionProvides an aid to the investigation by gathering intelligence and evidence, often in a covert manner. Covert Investigation SectionThe Covert Investigation Section (CIS) is responsible for the operation of all covert investigations (including undercover operations) in South Australia. It abides by the requirements of the Criminal Law (Undercover Operations) Act, 1995, therefore providing a professional and safe working environment for covert policing. Telecommunications Interception Section (TIS)The main services provided by the TIS in respect to the investigation of crime is the interception of telecommunications, the use of listening devices and surveillance devices and providing information from telecommunication carriers Forensic Accounts' SectionThe Section provides an investigative accounting service to support fraud, confiscation and other police investigations where financial evidence requires investigation and statements to be prepared for presentation to Court. The Section has a commitment to all of its clients to assist, advise or perform financial analysis. Witness Protection SectionThe objective of the Witness Protection Section is to ensure the safety and well being of persons accepted onto the Witness Protection Program. The Section provides a flexible support function to Local Service Areas and Investigation Branches. Technical Support BranchThe Branch provides technical assistance to investigations. |
