Bridging Now to Next - National Reconciliation Week

National Reconciliation Week Banner

National Reconciliation Week is an annual event that commences on 27 May (the anniversary of the 1967 Referendum) and concludes on 3 June (the anniversary of the High Court Native Title Mabo decision).

The National Reconciliation Week 2025 theme is “Bridging Now to Next”, a call to all Australians to reflect upon the ongoing connection between past, present and future – learning from the past to look ahead and push forward together on the reconciliation journey.

In celebration of this, SBS and NITV are providing an opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the importance of First Nations cultures with a curated collection of First Nations content premiering on Sunday 25 May.  This collection includes Our Medicine, an observation documentary following First Nations doctors, nurses, paramedics and traditional healers working collaboratively to provide health care throughout Australia; and the Namatjira Project, a personal documentary reflecting on the life of Arrente artist Albert Namatjira, the first Aboriginal man to be recognised as an Australian citizen 1957.

South Australia Police (SAPOL) acknowledges the role that we have played in South Australian First Nations history and by doing so, our organisation commits to building stronger relationships with First Nations communities through a police service that actively works towards reconciliation.

This is reflected in SAPOL’s current Reconciliation Action Plan and Statement of Reconciliation.  These publications demonstrate commitment towards reconciliation and provide the foundation for respectful relationships, acknowledgement of cultures and positive engagement with our Nation’s First People.  Visit our First Nations hub.
