Supporting diversity

Today (5 July) around 600 secondary school students from diverse backgrounds came together as part of the 2024 Multicultural Power Cup Carnival to celebrate the cultural diversity and vibrancy of our community through football.

The annual program is about inclusion and belonging and uses the power of sport to bring youth from culturally diverse backgrounds together and engage in teamwork. The program is offered as an Integrated Learning Subject aligned with the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE).

The program culminates with an annual carnival where students represent their school in a nine-a-side AFL competition and participate in an interactive careers exhibition to promote meaningful pathways.

Held at Alberton Oval, this year's carnival saw SAPOL once again playing a prominent role. SAPOL's stall at the careers expo was a popular attraction, with staff answering questions, engaging with the students and promoting the diverse range of career options available in SAPOL.

SAPOL staff including police officers, community constables, probationary constables and unsworn members supported the event.

During the day, participating teams of students accumulated points for match wins, attendance, and engagement. The teams with the highest points will play off in the grand final at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, 6 July as a curtain raiser to the Port Adelaide vs Western Bulldogs AFL game.
