Important change for regional policing

South Australia Police (SAPOL) is changing the name of its regional police response areas.

Effective from 1 July 2025, the SAPOL regional response areas will change from Local Service Areas to Regions.

The adoption of the term Region acknowledges the vast geographical areas our regional employees serve and better represents the diversity and distinctiveness of these communities.

The term aligns with its widely accepted definition: “a large area of land distinct from other areas, characterised by its own customs, characteristics, or geographical features.” This shift in terminology is designed to foster a stronger sense of identity, purpose, and alignment with the communities we serve.

The new Region titles are as follows:

Local Service Area          Region Title

Barossa LSA                     Barossa Region

Yorke Mid North LSA       Yorke Mid North Region

Far North LSA                   Far North Region

Eyre and Western LSA     Eyre and Western Region

Murray Mallee LSA           Murray Mallee Region

Hills Fleurieu LSA             Hills Fleurieu Region

Limestone Coast LSA       Limestone Coast Region

This change in the title reflects the unique characteristics of South Australia’s diverse regional communities.
