Reconditioning Program

Following the success of the inaugural My Health, My Wellbeing Reconditioning Program earlier this year, SAPOL is today re-launching and expanding the program with the aim of improving the health and wellbeing of more employees who may be in need of health advice and support.

The program links you with appropriate allied health service providers and also helps by covering any out of pocket expenses you incur.

If you have an injury, not moving as well as you used to, could use some dietary advice, have trouble getting a good night's sleep or just need to get into shape and don't know where to start, then this program could be for you.

Benefits from the inaugural program

Watch the video to learn more about the program and to hear the success stories from three participants from the inaugural program:

  • Senior Constable Merrilyn Millar, Road Safety Section – was given a specialised program to regain her fitness and upper body strength following cancer treatment.
  • Sergeant Simon Nappa, Emergency and Major Event Section –wanted to learn more about better nutrition and adjusting his physical training to keep him active.
  • Karina Loxton, Marketing and Communications Unit –needed treatment for a hip issue that was interrupting her sleep, and wanted a program to rebuild her weakened joints after years of sports injuries.

Between them they have increased their fitness, improved their strength, lost kilos, improved their sleep and made noticeable changes to their diet.

Expanded program

The Reconditioning Program will run from 1 October 2020 until 31 March 2021 and is open to all employees, but spots may be limited.

Improvements from the original trial program include:

  • an extended duration (so no rush in getting appointments);
  • an increase in the minimum number of appointments from 3 to 6 (if a person requires more sessions then this can be negotiated);
  • an increase in the number of dieticians on the preferred providers list;
  • the expansion of online appointments (telehealth);
  • an opportunity to engage in group sessions with colleagues; and more!

The program begins with:

  • General Practitioner Medical Examinations including blood tests
  • Mental Health assessment via a confidential questionnaire – part of the application process
  • Physical Health assessment via a confidential questionnaire – part of the application process
  • Exercise Physiologist Physical Movement assessment.

From this point a treatment plan is developed that best suits your personal needs.

Watch the video walking you through the application and reimbursement process.

The expectation is that appointments will be made outside of work time however appointments may be negotiated during worktime in exceptional circumstances.  Approval for this must be with the individual's manager and only if it is reasonable to do so and does not impact on service delivery.

Once you are in the program, getting reimbursement from SAPOL is easy. You simply pay the account in full on the day of the appointment then send through the invoice and receipt with your PD286. Read the tips on completing the PD286.
