Step 2 Ensure that the details are correct

Check that the information is correct.

Your firearms, parts and ammunition will be held by customs on arrival if any of the information is incorrect.

Note:
You will not be able to bring your firearms, parts and ammunition into Australia until the correct information is provided.

Step 3 Send your application

Send you application with the required documents and fees to the:

Firearms Branch
South Australia Police
GPO Box 1539
Adelaide SA 5001
Australia

The Branch issues the Firearms, Parts and your Customs Certification for Importation (B709).

Step 4 Permit requirements

Ensure that the firearms have a unique serial number. The serial number must be:

  • stamped on the firearm near the trigger
  • attached by a metal tag or label.

We will issue a serial number if a firearm does not have one. Serial numbers are recorded in your international visitors permit.

The serial number must remain on the firearms while they are in Australia.

Step 5 Arrival in South Australia

Present your firearms, parts and your Customs Certification (B709) for Importation to customs.

Discuss what you need to do when you leave the country with the firearm.

Conditions while in Australia

Ensure that your firearms, parts and ammunition are secure at all times while you are in Australia.

The permit issued by South Australia Police is valid within South Australia only. Contact the police in the states and territories you plan to visit to find out what other permits you need.

A list of police firearms registries is included in the permit application instructions.
