Police are all geared up for 10 days of fairground fun as South Australian families flock to the Royal Adelaide Show from 30 August – 8 September 2019 at the Adelaide Showgrounds. Uniformed and unmarked patrols, police dogs and horses, bicycle patrols and Public Transport Safety Branch members are just some of the SAPOL resources that will be active in the Showground and local area for the duration of the Show.
A highlight of SAPOL’s involvement in the Show every year is the corporate display in the Jubilee Pavilion (site G40, near the Food Court), which this year focuses on road safety.
Find out about the SA Police Road Safety Centre, a leader in road safety education, which plays a vital role in reducing road trauma through enhancing the awareness, knowledge and skills of all road users through lifelong learning. Learn about all the FREE road safety education sessions that the Centre runs – for young school children, to novice drivers through to road rules refreshers for business and community groups – as well as the mock roadway that is available for public use.
Road Safety Centre staff will also be on hand to answer questions about road rules, the fatal five and bike safety, and will be promoting the mock roadway and the school road safety sessions.
What’s your road safety pledge?
Young road users can share their road safety pledge with the Road Safety Centre’s interactive mirror photo booth – whether it’s pledging to wear a seatbelt, not to get distracted by phones or friends in the car or a promise to call for a lift if they have had too much to drink.
They will have a permanent reminder of their pledge with their free take-home photo which captures their personal promise to stay safe on the roads.
And the younger kids can have a photo taken on a Police BMW motorbike in front of a screen with Jeff the Road Safety Dog for a gold coin donation.
This year the Commissioner for Victims Rights will also join us on our stand for the first time, and the Police Officer of the Year will be announced at 11.45 am on 6 September on the Golden North Stage.
The Band of South Australia Police
You can also enjoy performances from the Band of the South Australia Police throughout the event. Starting at 11.45 am daily (except on Sundays) various groups including the Off The Cuff ensemble, Dixie Band and Rock Band will perform on the Golden North Stage, and 4.00 pm each day the SAPOL Big Band will take to the same stage. Additional performances will be at 1.45 pm Monday –Thursday at the Goyder Stage.
As always, child safety will be a focus of policing with the 'Lost Person' wristbands once again in use. Free wristbands can be collected from the BankSA Farmyard Nursery, Royal Show kiosks and the Show Police Station.
Police will also strictly enforce the reduced speed zones in place around the Showground throughout the duration of the show.
