Speeding driver at Coober Pedy

29 Feb 2020 5:55pm

A Victorian man has his driver's licence after he was caught speeding at 181 km/h near Coober Pedy in the State's Far North.

Coober Pedy patrols used mobile radar to detect the speeding motorist about 17 km south of Coober Pedy on the Stuart Highway just after 2.30pm on Saturday 29 February.  The signed speed limit is 110 km/h.

Police stopped the Kia Carnival and spoke with the driver and his seven passengers about his manner of driving.  There is no room for error at that lethal speed, which could easily result in eight fatalities.

The 25-year-old Victorian man was issued with a fine for $1718 and a six month instant loss of licence.
