SA Police celebrate “Making a World of Difference” for National Volunteer Week

22 May 2019 4:46pm

Today, police volunteers were acknowledged at a special morning tea held at the Police Academy where Acting Commissioner Linda Williams presented them with various milestone certificates.

This year’s South Australia Police Volunteer of the Year honour was awarded to Alan Davidson. Alan commenced volunteering with SAPOL in 2010 in a number of roles, including role-playing, public relations, tour guiding and community policing.  Alan has also assisted with the delivery of road safety presentations to children and adults, as a respected member of the Road Safety Centre team. To coincide with this accolade, Alan was also awarded with the Premiers Certificate of Recognition for outstanding volunteer service, signed by the Honourable Steven Marshall Premier of South Australia and the Honourable Michelle Lensink, Minister for Human Services.

The Premier’s Certificate of Recognition for outstanding volunteer service was established in 2002. Notwithstanding previous police nominations this is the first occasion where a police volunteer has been awarded this honour.

For this ceremony, Alan Davidson’s son James Davidson was present and accepted the awards on behalf of his father who is currently overseas.

SA Police has a long and proud history supporting volunteers. There are currently 1096 volunteers formally registered with the Police Volunteers Program, in areas such as Community Policing, the Police Historical Society, Neighbourhood Watch and Blue Light, to name a few.

These programs exist because of the tireless efforts of volunteers who perform a broad range of tasks, assisting SA Police in community engagement and providing support in the areas of crime prevention and community safety.

To our legion of volunteers, SA Police would like to commend everyone’s efforts and say thank you for your continued valuable contribution in assisting us to keep SA safe.
