03 Apr 2024 6:27am

A driver has been stopped by members of the public after crashing into a parked car in Gilles Plains yesterday evening.

At 5.55pm on Tuesday 2 April, police received reports from members of the public who witnessed a vehicle collide with a parked car on North East Road at Gilles Plains.  The driver appeared heavily intoxicated when he got out of the silver Mazda hatch.  The witnesses took the car keys from the man and waited with him until patrols arrived.

The driver, a 38-year-old man from Windsor Gardens, submitted to a breath test where he returned a positive result of 0.336 - almost seven times over the legal limit to drive.

The man was reported for driving under the influence of alcohol and aggravated driving without due care.  He was also issued a licence disqualification for 12 months and his vehicle impounded for 28 days.  He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

SAPOL officers would like to thank the members of the public who assisted in preventing the man from driving after the collision and causing any further incidents.  Anyone who witnesses dangerous, unsafe or impaired driving behaviour are encouraged to contact the Police Assistance Line on 131 444.
