Two men arrested over NBN cabling theft

22 Jan 2020 3:05pm

Northern District Police have arrested two men after they were spotted stealing NBN cabling at Elizabeth.

Just after 1pm on Monday 20 January, members of the public alerted police to two men acting suspiciously near a Telstra pit at Elizabeth.

Patrols responded quickly and allegedly caught the men towing NBN cabling in their vehicle.

A 48-year-old Elizabeth East man and a 50-year-old Salisbury man were arrested and charged with theft.  Both men were bailed to appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on 14 February.

The removal of NBN cabling poses a serious risk of electrocution due to direct access to power lines and cables.

Police urge anyone who witnesses suspicious behaviour, day or night, to contact the police assistance line on 131 444.
