Drivers reported in Murray Mallee over long weekend

Murray Mallee police have detected seven drivers committing traffic offences over the long weekend.

An 18-year-old Barmera man was reported for misuse of a motor vehicle after he allegedly performed a burnout on Murray Avenue, Renmark just before 11.30pm on Friday 5 June. His car was impounded and he will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.

A 35-year-old man from Renmark North was reported for drink driving at Renmark on Saturday. He was stopped on James Avenue at 8pm on Saturday 6 June and when breath tested, allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.089. He was issued with a six-month instant loss of licence and his vehicle was impounded.

About 12pm on Sunday 7 June, police detected a motorcycle speeding at Hunter Road, Nildottie. The rider, a 33-year-old Teringie man, was detected travelling at 144km/h in an 80km/h speed zone. He was also breath tested and allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.082. He was issued two six-month instant loss of licences (speeding and drink driving) and issued with an expiation notice for riding an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

Police stopped the driver of a Honda sedan on Frances Street, Murray Bridge about 10am on Monday 8 June. The driver, a 61-year-old man from Mypolonga, was breath tested and allegedly produced a blood alcohol reading of 0.163. He was reported for drink driving, issued with a twelve-month instant loss of licence and his vehicle was impounded.

Just after 3pm on Monday, police responded to a two-car crash on the Sturt Highway at Truro. One of the drivers involved, a 47-year-old Seaton man, allegedly returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.170 following the crash.

He was subsequently reported for aggravated driving without due care, drink driving and breaching his probationary licence conditions. He was issued with a twelve-month instant loss of licence and his vehicle was impounded.

A 26-year-old woman from Meningie was reported for driving an unregistered motor vehicle, drug driving and breaching her provisional licence conditions. She was stopped on Adelaide Road, Murray Bridge about 6pm on Monday. She allegedly returned a positive result to cannabis when submitted to a drug test.

A 27-year-old man from Northfield has been reported for driving disqualified after he was stopped by police for heavy vehicle compliance checks at Princes Highway, Monteith about 7.30pm on Monday.

All reported drivers will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
